Knowlton and had one child in 1849. She would then married a Charles H. Harrington in 1855. The other possibility is that she had one husband, and that his middle name was Harrington. Jane TEMPLE and Joseph KNOWLTON were married about 1818.^22,22871 The marriage records in Westboro give a marriage of Joseph Knowlton and Harriet Temple, but this event is unrelated to this Joseph Knowlton. This Joseph Knowlton, according to family history of relatives living in Joliet, IL in the late 1890s was that he was born in England, and deserted from the English Navy during the War of 1812, finally settling in Montgomery County, NY. More likely, he was born in one of the New England states, but impressed into the English Navy from which he deserted. The tradition about Jane is that she was born in this country. Apparently, Henry Riker had two daughters, Harriet and Jane, who were said to have married brothers. Harriet was said to have married Richard Temple, and Jane married William Temple. The latter were the parents of Jane Temple who married Joseph Knowlton. It is clear, however, that Jane Temple and the Harriet Temple that married Joseph Knowlton, while they may have been cousins, were not sisters.
