Peter TEMPLE74682 was born in July 1589 in Stowe, England, United Kingdom.46231,74682 In 1611 he was a Keeper of Camber Castle in England, United Kingdom.74682 He was ill with insanity on 19 February 1619 in Stowe, England, United Kingdom.74682 Symptoms may have been syphilis. Not clear what it actually was, but he had an early decline and a long death. Illness was bad enough in 1615 that his nephew, Sir John of Staunton, had to be put in charge of Camber Castle. Adjudged a lunatic by the Court of Wards, with Sir Thomas' wife's brother-in-law, Sir Robert Ryde, appointed guardian. Peter died on 7 April 1657 at the age of 67 in Stowe, England, United Kingdom.74682 Had six sons and six daughters. The claim that Peter was the father of Abraham Temple, who was the original Temple immigrant to North America, cannot be proven and is most likely unfounded. It appears in many books, all of which seem to repeat each other, but none of which offers primary source proof (because there is none). Having said that, he was the father of one Abraham Temple, but the latter died in Saco, ME and was not the Abraham of Salem, MA. Parents: John TEMPLE-3669 and Susan SPENCER-24231.

Perhaps he was the brother of William Temple of Bishopstrow, England. He died in 1695 at the age of 55 in York Co., VA.5135,111808 His will may have been drawn in VA, but he may have died in Lambeth, Surrey, England. His death date may be confused with that of his son. Peter was a Minister of York Parish in York, York, VA.5134 Received a grant of land 24 Dec 1665.
Peter TEMPLE99960 was born in 1661 in Bishopstrow, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom. I do not know if he immigrated with his brothers or not. He may be the Reverend Peter Temple of York County, VA, husband of Mary. Parents: William TEMPLE-22600 and UNKNOWN-61890.

It appears that his family was struck by some serious disease in 1806, with Peter (his son) bringing in an infection in November, followed closely in December by the deaths of several other family members, and stopping in February 1807 with the death of Mary (Polly). Peter TEMPLE447,455,37718,50447 was born in 1811 in Middletown, Butler, OH.23430,37718,50449 In September 1850 he was a farmer in Gilmer, Lake, IL.50449 He died on 6 February 1854 at the age of 43 in Hamilton, Hancock, IL.23430 Estate of Peter Temple filed March 20, 1854, Hancock Co., Illinois. Copy of original estate papers in possession of Joan Glasgow. He may also have married Margaret Reddich. He may be the son of Michael and Catherine (Haefner) Temple. Based on the suspicious coincidence of being in Montebello, IL, at around the same time, I am suspicious that he is indeed the son of a John Temple, and that he had siblings John (b 1823) and George (b 1834). If they weren't siblings, they were apparently close, and possibly cousins. The naming similarities of Peter's children and those of John and Mary A. Temple are very close, with nearly the same order of children, at about the same dates, and they ended up in the same county in IL.
Estate of Peter Temple, his father, Filed March 20, 1854, Hancock Co., Illinois. Copy of original estate papers in possession of Joan Glasgow.
In the 1880 census his daughter Anna Cynthia Temple Agnew, states that her father was born in Pennsylvania. His son George says he was born in Ohio.
1850 Census, the town of Gilmer, Adams, Illinois, enumerated the 28th day of Sept, 1850, shows his wife to be "Sally," really Sarah. He was 39 and she was 37 both born in Ohio. Their children were, William, Mary E., John, Ann, George, and Sarah. All born in Ohio.
Email from Joseph Janson noted that his GGGfather is John Gifford Temple, son of Peter. He noted that they were from Middleton, Ohio
Daniel Doty is considered the "father" of Middletown but it was Stephen Vail, who in 1802 platted fifty-two lots from his one hundred acre purchase. Doty was the pioneer, the first to settle in the vicinity of Middletown. In 1796, he brought his family from New Jersey to live in the "Little Prairie," the name he had given the area he had first explored in 1791. Vail was the farmer and land speculator, naming his plat Middle-town. Perhaps, he believed the location on the Great Miami River would be in the middle of what would become Butler County in 1803.
After John's death, some of his children apparently were raised by his brother Peter, which has muddled the lines between the two brothers. The key differentiator was the 1850 census, where the children were assumed to be properly aligned. That means both John and Peter had sons named George, born within a year of each other. The open question is whether Sarah Jane was the daughter of John or Peter. I included Sarah Jane with Peter because his wife was named Sarah, so that needs proof.
Spouse: Sarah (Sally) LORING-60084. Sarah (Sally) LORING and Peter TEMPLE were married on 6 April 1836 in Butler Co., OH.455,17856,50451 Children were: William TEMPLE-60089, Mary Elizabeth (Mary) TEMPLE-60081, John Gifford TEMPLE-60091, Anna Cynthia (Cynthia) TEMPLE-60092, George Loy (George) TEMPLE-38482, Sarah Jane (Sarah/Jennie) TEMPLE-60093.

HISTORY OF HOMEOPATHY AND ITS INSTITUTIONS IN AMERICA
"Dr. Peter Temple, a brother of Dr. J. T. Temple, writes of homeopathy in Lexington in 1875 : "This was a large slaveholding district and the first settlers were from Kentucky and Virginia, and they and their descendants are slow in breaking away from the old school practice. The first homeopathic medicine given in this county was by my wife in 1847, from a case given her by my brother, Dr. John T. Temple, with Epps' Practice. She being an uncompromising advocate of the system practised on our children when sick, and the neighbors seeing the good effect of her treatment, soon got medicine for their children, and soon she had quite a reputation for doctoring children and others. I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1861 I graduated from the Homeopathic Medical College of St. Louis and moved into town the same year. Between 1854 and 1860 there had been several homeopathic physicians, mostly Germans, located here, but none of them stayed long enough to make any impression on the community. When I came I found a Dr. Williams practicing. Notwithstanding the prejudice against homeopathy I soon got a very good practice. Being favorably known by the citizens generally as an allopathic physician formerly, I gained access to many families whose doors would have otherwise been shut against me. My son, Dr. J. R. Temple, became my partner in 1867. At the death of my son in March, 1871, I associated with Dr. G. W. Barker."" Peter died on 18 March 1889 at the age of 76 in Lexington, Lafayette, MO.91957,111821,111822 Rise of the Temples listed year as about 1890. Cemetery records give his burial as 20 Mar 1889, having died of pneumonia. However, the same records say he was 78y, but the known dates for him made him 76 when he died. Buried in the Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington, MO, but he is listed only in their records; no gravestone found. Said to be in plot A-8-1. He has reference number RLT # 102.1030 Parents: Reverend John (Jack) TEMPLE-4501 and Alice TAYLOR-5302.
