She moved in 1923 in Indianapolis, Marion, IN.²¹⁶⁷⁴ She appeared in the census in April 1940 in Mars Hill, Marion, IN.⁶¹⁵²⁴ Mary lived 3249 South McClure Street in Indianapolis, Marion, IN in 1956.²¹⁶⁷⁴ She died on 4 August 1956 at the age of 52 in Indianapolis, Marion, IN.^{21674,73209,73210} Died at home of a coronary-related cause, but her death certificate was extremely blurred. Buried in Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. Her maiden name appeared as Sloan in her daughter Christine's obituary, but was Wilson in her daughter Ida's birth certificate. Since she and her daughters Christine and Merle (and possibly Shirley) did not appear with Benjamin Temple in 1930, it would appear that this was at least a second marriage for her, and that her prior married name was Sloan. Her daughter Christine's obituary in the 14 Feb 2004 Indianapolis Star clearly said her parents as Ben and Mary H. (Sloan) Temple, but Ben was actually her stepfather. The obituary gave her name as Christine M. Chadwick-Nier, not recognizing her Temple connection, probably because she was a Nier and was adopted by Ben Temple.

So - based on the secondary sources and the sequence of births and surnames given, she seems to have been born a Sloan, and married Eddie Nier, by whom she had daughters Christine and Merle. It seems she was briefly married to a Wilson, who was the father of Shirley, apparently. (In 1930, there was a Mary who was the wife of Laurence Wilson in Indianapolis, she was from KY and b 1904, but she had 4 children, none of them Christine or Merle.) Then she married Ben Temple, by whom she had Ida and Ben, Jr. This requires primary source proof, but it is the only way that the obituaries and Social Security records match up and makes sense.

Hor own obituary gave her suviving daughters' names as Christine Chadwick and Merle Chadwick, which may be married names. They appear to have married brothers.

The timing of her marriages, of course, determines the birth surnames of her children. The SSACI for her daughter Christine indicates she did not change her Social Security records until Nov 1943, but had already become known as a Temple in the 1940 census. This obscures the dates of the earlier marriages to Wilson and Nier. She had definitely married Ben Temple by the Apr 1940 census, and his name was given in Oct 1940 as the father of Ida Temple. All the marriage dates shown are approximate.

Her death certificate had some event, perhaps her birth, as Lexington, KY.
