He has reference number RLT # 59ii.2153 No issue from marriage with Mary Onion, but this was probably a second marriage for both. Living with him in 1860 was a Hannah Taylor, ae 60, born in PA. She had previously lived with Samuel's father William's family in the 1850 census. Parents: William Clemens TEMPLE-5200 and Elizabeth TAYLOR-23691.

Samuel A. TEMPLE was born in 1847 in MD.5418,5419 In June 1880 he was a stone mason in Abingdon, Harford, MD.5419 He died before 1910 at the age of 63. There are two Harford County, Maryland families with similar children names and dates, which is confusing. Mary A. was enumerated as the mother of these children in 1910, and Lorenza was mother of the other family. This may indicate one man with two wives, but the dates of the children's births overlap.

His parents were both from PA. He seems in all likelihood to be Samuel A. Temple who married Mary Smithson Onion - his parents. However, the ages he and Mary gave in 1880, and the ages Mary reported in later censuses, indicate that they are 20 years younger than the latter people. I don't understand the discrepancy, but have represented the relationship as it would seem based on the ages in 1880. The problem is, that he never appeared in any census as the son of Samuel A and Mary (Onion) Temple. However, if he and Mary are really Samuel and Mary (Onion) Temple, then Mary was having children well into her 60s. Parents: Samuel A. TEMPLE-23692 and Mary Smithson (Mary) ONION-30916.

Spouse: Mary A. -50746. Mary A. and Samuel A. TEMPLE were married. Children were: Samuel Otho TEMPLE-50743, Flora L. TEMPLE-50744, George T. TEMPLE-50747, William Taylor (Taylor) TEMPLE-50741.

First of all, he claimed Lewiston as his residence, though there is no record of his living there. But more to the point, he claimed to be from New Brunswick, and is listed in Canadian records as one of the Canadians who served in the US Civil War.

Samuel Allen TEMPLE16612,55191 was born between 1784 and 1790 in Chatham Co., NC.115658 He appeared in the census in 1810 in Chatham Co., NC.9483 Enumerated with 1 male 26-45 (himself), 1 male 16-26 and 1 0-10; 1 female 16-26 and 1 0-10. He appeared in the census in 1820 in Chatham Co., NC.9483 Enumerated as Allen Temple. Samuel appeared in the census in 1830 in Pittsboro, Chatham, NC.9483 Enumerated as Samuel. He appeared in the census in 1840 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL.9483 Enumerated with a male age 10-15. His marriage situation is unclear. He may have divorced or abandoned Sarah, but we have no records either way. We know she retained her name as Temples until at least 1860.

Identification of Samuel Allen as the father of Samuel Temple(s) b 1808 is circumstantial at best. He is associated based on timing and location, and therefore this needs proof. The timing is such tat the younger Samuel might not be the son of Sarah Smith. Since Samuel Allen did not live to the 1850 census, thereby revealing a better estimate of his age, his identification as the son in the 1810 census born between 1784 and 1790 is assumed, and may be very wrong. Therefore, it is possible that Samuel Allen and Samuel b 1808 were actually the same person, and not father and son. Winnie Lavenia Temple's genealogy of the family has Samuel father of James b 1810 as having married a Sarah. This was true, however, for two generations of Samuel Temples, with Sarah Smith and Sarah Milton, and this could be part of the source of the confusion. Parents: Samuel TEMPLE Jr.-17093 and Sarah (Sally) MILTON-16100.

Spouse: Sarah SMITH-33721. Sarah SMITH and Samuel Allen TEMPLE were married about 1815 in NC. Children were: Samuel TEMPLE(S)-35428, Joab TEMPLES-33730, Sophia (Sufiar) TEMPLES-33724.

Samuel E. TEMPLE4297,15457,25285 was born on 2 May 1798 in Reading, Middlesex, MA.25285,25287,90533 Gave his age as 40 in 1860. The place may have been Francistown, NH, according to the informant of his son Herbert's death certificate. In August 1860 he was a farmer in Londonderry, Windham, VT.25287 He died on 19 March 1864 at the age of 65 in Londonderry, Windham, VT.10697,25285,115692 Buried in Glebe View Cemetery, South Londonderry, VT. Middle initial comes from the Boynton genealogy. A possibility exists that the representation here is an erroneous combination of two different Samuel Temples, one who married Polly Fairbanks, the other Louisa Curtis. The 1850 census for Londonderry VT includes a Samuel and Louisa, but they have slightly different children, and the dates are only close. The family presented in Rise of the Temples (# 246) does not appear in the 1850 census in Londonderry. Parents: Jabez TEMPLE Sr.-4372 and Hephzibah Esther (Hephzibah) EMERSON-4411.

Samuel Griffin's wife at the time was a second wife, named Martha J., ae 47. So, for him to be the uncle of Samuel Temple, one of the sisters of Richard Webb Temple had to have been Samuel Griffin's first wife. That means either Susanna Green, Margaret Ann, Martha or Caroline married him first, before 1850, as all were dead by the 1850 census. Before 1893 he was a farmer in Ballard Co., KY.41375 In June 1900 Samuel was a farmer in Woodville, Mc Cracken, KY.41377 He lived in Maxon Mills, Mc Cracken, KY after 1900.41378 He died about 1914 at the age of 42. Marriage date based on claimed age in 1930 comes out to be 1898. The marriage also appears in Ballard Co., KY marriage register. Children were: Lillie TEMPEL-124861, Richard Bernice TEMPLE-124852, Forest Lee TEMPLE-9897, Leonard H. TEMPLE-31030.

Col. Samuel Francis TEMPLE30366,63004 was born on 14 September 1742 in Chesterfield Co., VA.20783,63004 He served in the military in 1777 in King William Co., VA.105410,115704 Served as a Lieutenant and Captain in Caroline County Militia in 1777. Appears in pay records dated 23 Sep 1777. Before 1798 he was a partner in the firm of Benjamin Temple and Company.106138 Samuel died on 23 July 1798 at the age of 55 in Caroline Co., VA.20783,63004,107100 His son John was his estate's administrator. However, the estate remained unsettled for some time, eventually winding up in chancery court, where it was partially settled in Aug 1801. Apparently the final issue had to do with the status of two minor children - Mariah (sic) who would seem to be Maria b 1786 and being under 21, a minor; and Ann, who also being a minor could not be otherwise identified, but might be Elizabeth (Temple) Redd. In later court proceedings, it might be that the earlier naming of Ann was mistakenly shortened, and that she was Ann Temple Threshly, Samuel's granddaughter. Still in chancery court in Aug 1802, the court decided how to divide up the land and a considerable monetary estate. The land was 1338 acres, and the money at 19,925 pounds and change. The land was divided roughly equally into 133 1/4 acre plots. Additionally, numerous slaves were divided up among Samuel's children. Parents: Colonel Joseph TEMPLE-4447 and Anne ARNOLD-16128.
