Greg Wilson told Wayne Temples that Company K was known as the "Tallapoosa Thrashers." A veteran of the Company K wrote an article on their experience in the early 1900s. Edmund B. Langley wrote "The Tale of Six Brothers Who Served." Greg Wilson provided the following quote:

"On one of their tramps in Tennessee, when, after a fight with the Federals and following their victory on the highway, they found natural limesinks or caves, which offered a place for straggling soldiers to hide. One of Company K, Captain Slaughter's company, whose name was Elisha Temples, brave and full of fun, said to his company, 'Boys, I'm going to get some Yanks out of that limesink.' He stepped into the cave, presented his gun, though he had not seen them, and abruptly ordered them to come out. Two or three yankees, thinking he saw them, came walking out to surrender to Lish T. This put a feather in his cap as a 'Bully.'" In June 1880 Elisha was a farmer in Ufala Beat, Tallapoosa, AL.19387 Enumerated with them was Jessy C. Canady, clearly a phonetic spelling for Canada, age 20. Frederick TEMPLE(S) was born between 1770 and 1775 in Anson Co., NC.74154 Narrower range is deduced from his age in three successive censuses. He moved before 1805 in Montgomery Co., GA.91196 He served in the military in 1812.122554 Served as a private in Wilson's Company of Hardee's Battalion of GA Militia in the Creek War. Frederick appeared in the census in 1820 in Emanuel Co., GA.5169 Appeared with 1 male 26-45, 1 male 16-26, 3 males 10-16, and 2 males 0-10; 1 female over 45, and 2 females 0-10. He appeared in the census in 1830 in Early Co., GA.5169 Appears with 1 male 50-69, 3 males 20-30. and 2 males 15-20; 1 female 50-60, 2 females 10-15, and 1 female 5-10. He appeared in the census in 1840 in Early Co., GA.2281,5169 Enumerated next to his son David. Appeared with one male 70-80 (himself) and 1 female 60-70 (Mary), whose age got progressively younger in three successive censuses. Appeared as a Temples beginning in 1840. Frederick died before August 1850 at the age of 80 in Early Co., GA.5169,91196 Will dated 13 Jun 1851, and on 24 Sep 1851, James and John applied for letters of administration for the estate. He has reference number RLT # U3426.1399 It is not at all clear that the Frederick enumerated in Early County, GA in 1850 was this one. Although grouped together in a single household, Frederick Temples was ae 60 - the age of this one's son - and his wife was Mary, ae 75. In the next household, there we found Frederick, Jr.'s wife Rachel given as the head of household. Normally, that would indicate her husband was dead. I think what happened, however, is that Rachel's husband was enumerated with her mother-in-law in the 1850 census, and that it was Mary, not Rachel, who was the widow. Besides, the Frederick enumerated in 1850 was 60 years old, and his apparent wife, Mary, was 15 years his senior - more like a mother and her first son.

His family line for the next two generations requires some serious scrutiny, because it appears lines are confused with each other, that children and grandchildren are mixed.

In 1840, among the heads of household who seemed to be his children, they were in order of enumeration: Michael Temples (ae 20-30) 5 doors from David (ae 20-30), next door to Frederick (ae 70-80), next door to James (ae 30-40), next door to Andrew (ae 20-30), next door to Absalom Scott (gave no age, and of no known relationship to these lines), next door to Holden (Holding) (ae 20-30), next door to Dedrick (ae 30-40). That leads me to believe that Frederick (this one) was the father of the others listed. Parents: Frederick TEMPLES-34136 and UNKNOWN-57797.

Spouse: Mary -34544. Mary and Frederick TEMPLE(S) were married. Children were: Frederick TEMPLES-34546, William TEMPLES-34547, William Holden (Holden) TEMPLES-34548, Dedrick TEMPLE-57798, David TEMPLE(S)-34549, James TEMPLE(S)-34550, Michael TEMPLES-34551, Elizabeth TEMPLE-34552, Sarah TEMPLE-34553.

Spouse: Mary E. WALKER-34545. Mary E. WALKER and Frederick TEMPLE(S) were married on 8 April 1830 in Early Co., GA.5169 Temple People, Vol. II cites an independent researcher as the source of this marriage, and concludes that it could have been a second marriage for Frederick, or the marriage of another Frederick. I believe the age differences of Frederick's wife in the censuses is not all due to modesty, but rather that he had two wives.

Frederick TEMPLE(S) was born in 1830 in NC.56293 This may be an enumerator error in 1900, as his children and his widow gave the same places for their parents birthplaces. In September 1860 he was a farm laborer in Sanders Beat, Henry, AL.56293 He died before 1870 at the age of 40. Frederick has reference number RLT # U3426.5177 Enumerated with the terminal S in 1860. Surname was Tempels in 1880. Without the S in his marriage records. He was apparently confused about his origins, as his elders were from NC, but he appears to have been from GA. It is not clear whether he was the last or only child of Frederick's unknown first wife, or whether he was actually the first child of Rachel King. Parents: Frederick TEMPLES-34546 and UNKNOWN-55872.

The date is in 1880 on his grave marker. In his WWI draft registration, he put the date in 1881, but as he was enumerated in the 1880 census, that year was wrong. His obituary said the place was Dexter, MO, but a secondary source of unknown reliability said the place was Castor, MO. He appeared in the census in June 1900 in Castor, Stoddard, MO.67988 In April 1910 he was a farmer in Liberty, Stoddard, MO.27826 In 1918 Frederick was a farmer in Dexter, Stoddard, MO.39383 In January 1920 he was a farmer in Liberty, Stoddard, MO.39378 In April 1930 he was a carpenter in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO.39379 In April 1940 Frederick was a wholesale clothing company janitor in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO.39380 He died on 30 January 1942 at the age of 62 in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO.24085,122555 He died at an undisclosed location in St. Louis due to an undisclosed illness lasting about 10 days.
