Mr. Temple's finances had become an issue prior to the appearance of the news item when Davis Hewitt, in a similar circumstance, sued him to foreclose on a mortgage. Temple's intent was to purchase ten acres owned by Louisa Hewitt, but he was unable to pay the promissory note.
