Mary Ann TEMPLE^32785,114527 was born in 1800 in Shepherdstown, Jefferson, WV.⁵⁹³⁰⁰ She died before 1888 at the age of 88.³²⁷⁸⁵ Some sources give her name as Ann, others as Mary A, and the History of Beaver Co., PA, says Mary J. The Sitton-Gibson genealogy said she was the mother of Saphronia, but she was apparently not. Verdier's first wife, Lavina, died in 1845 - the year after Saphrona was born. So, the marriage date for Mary Ann and Robert would appear to be 1846 at the earliest. If, however, she was a Temple, and that the Sitton-Gibson genealogy had her at some time in her past in KY, then the scope of who she was narrows to only one Mary Temple. That was Mary J. Temple, as she was given in the History of Beaver Co., PA. Mary J.'s brother William lived out the rest of his life in Hancock Co., KY, but her brother John Trimble Temple moved to Lincoln Co., MO in 1843. It appears that Mary went with him. She did not move with him subsequently when John Trimble Temple moved to Beaver Co., PA, because she had, in the interim, met and married Robert Verdier. VERDIER were married in 1846 in Lincoln Co., MO.¹¹⁴⁵²⁷ The place requires proof - the Sitton-Gibson genealogy gave KY, but it would appear more likely to have been close to the birthplace of Saphrona, which was Lincoln Co., MO, which was also where Robert Verdier died. His having been there for the last 20 years of his life indicates a greater likelihood of stability, and a lesser chance that he went to KY for a marriage and then returned. If Mary accompanied her brother John Trimble Temple to Lincoln Co., MO in 1843, then she was in place for the death of Robert's first wife and available for him to marry her in 1845 or 1846.
