He lived in Walpole, Cheshire, NH between 1776 and 1792.11205 Dates of residence estimated from Pension Records. He served in the military in 1780 in VT.23,94346,94347 Enlisted at Stone, NH, marched to Peacham, VT over the summer, and spent the time scouting the woods towards Canada, Lake Champlain and the Connecticut river, moving their headquarters to Newbury, VT in the Fall of 1780. Enos Temple earned a pension for serving as a Private in the NH Militia in a resolution passed 7 Jun 1832. He was placed on the roll 11 Nov 1832, 4 Mar 1831, no age given. He claimed service in the garrison of Fort Constitution at Portsmouth, NH for six months prior to joining Major Whitcomb's company. According to Mrs. Abbott, a genealogist in Westmoreland, Enos used to relate stories to his grandchildren about a long march over frozen ground and his boots were worn from his feet so that the soldiers left blood on the frozen ground and snow. Enos moved in 1780 in Walpole, Cheshire, NH.94346 He lived in Lisbon, Grafton, NH between 1792 and 1846.11205 He died on 4 March 1846 at the age of 82 in Lisbon, Grafton, NH.8299,19397,82694 Buried in Salmon Hole Cemetery, Lisbon, NH. Served in Revolutionary War including 6 months at Ft. Constitution, Portsmouth, NH. Later did scout duty for the army. Received a pension for his services, applying 14 Aug 1832 in Lisbon, NH, NH Service record S14659. He was the only Enos Temple to serve in the war.

A pension application lists his wife's maiden name as Anna Gary. The family Bible of Enos Temple lists her name as Anna Burt, daughter of John Burt.

The confusion appears to be that Enos Temple had two wives. His first, Anna Burt, was the mother of his 6 children. She was Anna Burt, apparently, and they married in 1784. His second wife was Anna Gary, whom he married in the Spring of 1820. She was the widow of Alexander Hodge and the mother of John Hodge of Lisbon, NH. Ephraim TEMPLE41941 was born on 4 May 1727 in Shrewsbury, Worcester, MA.33105,93295,94352 Levi Temple records date as 22 Aug 1726. He was baptized on 15 June 1727 in Shrewsbury, Worcester, MA.43106 He moved in 1771 in Gardner, Worcester, MA.94353 Ephraim died in 1789 at the age of 62 in West Boylston, Worcester, MA.22177,31422,33105 He had his estate probated in 1789 in Gardner, Worcester, MA.94354,94355 Will probated. A number of sources and researchers point to a third wife, Elizabeth Houghton, whom he may have married in 1785. They both seem to have died in 1789, she on 28 Feb 1789. This is on the strength of a gravestone in the Old Burial Ground in West Boylston. There, Betty Temple is commemorated as the wife of Ephraim Temple, and her death at 24 years of age is given on that date. The problem is that Ephraim's son Isaac also married Elizabeth Houghton, not all that common a name. Isaac's Elizabeth, however, had different dates, dying in 1789. I would consider this a mere confusion of a step mother as a spouse of a child - but Isaac's Elizabeth was the mother of several children and she died in 1819. So, I have recognized two Elizabeth Houghtons, possibly related but distinctly different women, because I cannot resolve this conflict any other reasonable way. Parents: Isaac TEMPLE-164 and Elizabeth HOLLAND-169.
