Unmarried in 1940 and 1942. In his WW2 draft registration, he gave his next of kin as Hattie House, saying she was his aunt living in Darlington, MD. That made her Hattie Temple, b 1874 MD, daughter of William James and Avarilla (Whittaker) Temple. If Hattie was William Edwin's aunt, then William Edwin was the son of either Edwin O. Temple (1869-1926), William C. Temple (1871-?), or Edward Temple (1872-?).
Of these sons of William James and Avarilla Temple, only Edward was known to have a family, and he had a son named Edwin Homer Temple, b 1903 in Point of Rocks, MD. So the conclusion that William Edwin Temple was their son is circumstantial, though based on timing, exact location, exact relationship to his aunt, and a family use of Edwin as a name, possibly as a namesake for an uncle Edwin. The death certificate also indicates his son Charlie had a few days residence in Lorain, OH, which might prove to be a connection. It is hard to reconcile William Elbridge's claims, as family recollections are that he spun tales of all sorts, so wading through them to actual facts is difficult. One of these stories is about his going by the name William Barton, possibly about his being adopted by Bartons (or vice versa?). He was a moulder.⁶⁰⁵⁹² It seems highly likely that William Elisha Temple, Sr., was the same person as William Temple, son of O.H. Temple, and husband of Emily Weller. Both Williams were married on the same day in Tippecanoe Co., IN. But the facts as they now exist, particularly with the names of the wives, do not support this as a certainty. They list William and Kathryn's marriage as 15 May 1901, but that is an error, and applies to another William Temple. Otherwise, William married Kathryn a couple of months before his first wife died.
