Perhaps the one in the asylum only claimed to be Clinton Temple, but that really doesn't explain why the hospital officials reported him to be Clinton. The alternative was that he was allowed out away from the hospital, but that doesn't explain how he got to be considered the head of the family when enumerated with his father and younger brother.
