The other James, who married Rachel Singleton, was the son of Thomas and Amy Temple. I think Nancy J. is a second wife, and that she is the mother of Charley A., John F. and Daniel. That would have put their marriage between Richard's birth of 1870 and Charley's of 1874. My reason for thinking so is the arrangement of the children into two separate groups, with the youngest next to Nancy, then starting a second declining tier with Madison. This was sometimes done by census takers to denote the relationship of an earlier marriage.

Given as James Allen in his WWI draft registration, he appears in all other places as Allen. He was illiterate and gave his mark in his WWI draft registration.
