Temple People, Vol. II, indicates that the document in Hart Co., GA, giving custody to Joseph and Julia was, however, dated before Benjamin's death, being dated 2 Feb 1863, at which time Benjamin was very much alive. I believe that what actually happened is that Elizabeth, his wife, must have died in late 1862 or early 1863 (before February), and because he was away at the war, the children were made the wards of Joseph and Julia. In April 1910 Benjamin was a farmer in Spring Creek Twp., Decatur, GA.⁴⁰⁸³³ He died before 1920 at the age of 52.⁴⁰⁸³⁴ In 1900, although enumerated with his mother Missouri, he claimed that his parents were from AL (father) and GA (mother), but she was from AL. I don't know if this indicates an earlier marriage for Ransom or not, or just an error.
