Kermit Louis TEMPLE was born on 22 October 1914 in Northampton, Hampshire, MA.¹⁴⁵⁵⁶ He was adopted on 26 June 1915 in Bradford Co., PA.^14556,110046 Proceedings for this adoption may have started 23 Oct 1914, as indicated by some secondary sources, but adoption papers provided by Kermit's grand-nephew, Jim Temple, prove the adoption was not finalized until 26 Jun 1915. He lived in Laceyville, Wyoming, PA in 1955.⁹³¹¹⁷ Jim Temple, grandson of John Ernest Temple, explained the unusual situation with Kermit. Accompanying his explanation was the city clerk's papers for the adoption of one Kermit Louis Temple, apparently born Robert Temple, who became Kermit Louis Nesslein. Here is the explanation Jim provided:

"My grandfather, John Ernest Temple, worked with Louis Nesslein on the railroad in Northampton, Massachusetts. Lillian Nesslein’s parents died and left her their farm, in Pennsylvania. Louis and Lillian were unable to have children and my grandparents offered to give them their next child, which would have been Kenneth Raymond. When he was born, Kenneth Raymond was pretty sickly and they feared he might not survive the train trip to Pennsylvania, so they offered the next one, who happened to be Uncle Kermit. So, Uncle Kermit went to live with and be brought up by the Nessleins, as their child. Now, in 1918, my grandfather quit the railroad and took the family to Silvara (Tuscarora TWP) and they bought a dairy farm across the street from the Nessleins. My uncle always knew who his birth parents were and that he had brothers and sisters; it was just one of those things that was accepted for what it was.
