Both were born in 1916, they had parents from WV, and both were road construction laborers in Greene Co., PA, in 1940. It may be that they are closely related. Jesse Hutton TEMPLE was educated Harvard University before 1913 in Boston, Suffolk, MA.97133

Jesse Hutton (J.H.) TEMPLE63897,86288 was born on 2 October 1811 in Pennsbury, Chester, PA.3025,30858,63897,63900 He moved in 1818 in Harford Co., MD.19713 He moved about 1824 in PA.19713 Jesse moved in 1835 in IL.26749 In November 1850 he was a carpenter in Alton, Madison, IL.63897,63900 He lived in Rock Island, Rock Island, IL in 1856.91618 In July 1860 Jesse was a master carpenter in Port Byron, Rock Island, IL.21015 He died on 26 November 1863 at the age of 52 in Port Byron, Rock Island, IL.26749,63897,105655 His estate was probated in Rock Island Co., IL. Buried in Port Byron Cemetery, Port Byron, IL. He has reference number RLT # 116.8741 Some Temple Pedigrees has created some major confusion between this family and that of Jesse Hutton Temple. There are numerous overlaps of people and dates. Considerable confusion exists over Jesse Hutton Temple and his ancestry. The confusion stems from irresolvable differences and contradictions between and among Levi Temple's Some Temple Pedigrees and Albert Temple/Danny Smith's Rise of the Temples.

For his part, Levi probably came the closest when he assigned Jesse Hutton Temple (generation 6), b 2 Oct 1811 as the son of Isaac and Catharine Hutton Temple (generation 5), on page 269. First, this assignment explains his middle name using standard naming conventions. Then, he screws it up on page 274 by assigning Jesse Hutton to generation 5, and as the son of Thomas and Wilmath Doty Temple - in other words, he is the brother of Isaac, not the son of Isaac. This is completely at odds with the family and dating of Thomas and Wilmath's family on pages 264-265. However, one could stretch the timing of the issue of Thomas and Wilmath to encompass a birth in 1811, but it is a real stretch. Despite the inconsistency, Jesse Hutton seems to fit most properly under Isaac.

Then enter Danny Smith and Albert Temple. Using their numbering system, they introduce Jesse Hutton as # 116, b 1811 as the son of Thomas, but indicate he is generation 4. They also give Isaac as generation 4 and their number 115, just preceding Jesse Hutton, and as the son of Thomas, making him the brother of Jesse Hutton. But Isaac's issue are given as Myra, Milton, Tillotson, Chalkley and Jesse. No further information is given on this second Jesse, however. Moreover, the birth dates for the two lines they continue, those of Milton and Tillotson, are 1805 and 1838 respectively. Isaac was long dead in 1838, so Tillotson is either (a) not born in 1838, or (b) not the son of Isaac. Research has shown that Tillotson's birth date was 1814, and that Albert and Danny misdated him. The inconsistencies in Albert and Danny's rendition lead me to favor Levi's presentation of the facts. However, this should not be taken as proven.

His service record indicates he was only on duty for 3 months in 1861, yet he received mention in a letter of the Surgeon and Acting Medical Inspector of Prisoners of War in 1864. In that letter, A.M. Clark wrote to Col. W. Hoffman, Commissary-General of Prisoners, in Washington, DC, to note the serious problem with disease among the prisoners then kept at Rock Island Barracks in IL. Writing about the problem of smallpox, Clark wrote "On my arrival I found some thirty eight cases of the disease and some of these in an advanced stage, lying among their fellows in the prison barracks. This is inexcusable. The fact had not been reported to the commanding officer by the surgeon in charge. That officer should, however, have been acquainted with the fact that through his provost-marshall, and should have directed their immediate removal, even without the request of the surgeon. Much excuse is to be made for the medical officers in view of their inexperience and of the difficulties with which they had to contend, as shown in their reports. Doctor Temple is an acting assistant surgeon and was not aware of the extent of his authority or duties as surgeon in charge."
